  1.     The early Micronesians did , in fact, sell their mates while sailing the Pacific in search of urologists. It was not a very successful enterprise as people kept sending them back. One did make it to the US where he ended up teaching geography, specializing in the 13 continents.

  2. YEs, because they are very much into asexual reproduction. You're safe. They do, however, tend to scrutinise you as if you are under a microscope.

    Cheers

  3. Yes when they are caught falsifying research results in order to get federal funding.

  4. Yes, if you catch them exchanging plasmids or building biofilms together.  No, if they excrete peroxides and antibiotics at each other.  Maybe, depending on how they are aerosolized (sail mates) and they stick to the bottom of your feet (sole mates).

For a good time, check out "virophage".

  5. Hilarious!  Microbiologists are excellent cell mates in the literal sense, if they are generous, as they are generally able to collect and culture bacteria for the process of fermentation.  If you are mechanically inclined enough to construct a still, you can have beer in your cell. (and 2 units of ATP, if you have any use for it) :).

In the the figurative sense, we make good cell mates with actual cells, because we unconditionally love them, are concerned only with their personal growth, pay endless attention to them, and care more for their welfare than for our own usually.

  6. Only if they are not block heads..that is the key.
