One day I came home to my fish tank (4 mollies, 2 protein eaters) and noticed there was one baby swimming around the tank. I knew my molly was pregnant and quickly fished the baby out into the breeding tank (it was in the main tank, I didn't put the mom in the breeding tank). After that I looked around for more babies, but I didn't see any. It's two days later and still no babies. Is it possible she is still pregnant? Did she have the babies and eat them, except for one?

This is my first time with mollies so I need help!

  1. If you found one in the tank and it's already been two days. Then unfortunately the babies were probably eaten by the other fish. For future reference you should keep your pregnant Mollie in a separate tank till she gives birth.

  2. They can take their time having babies, and yes, they might eat them, too.

  3. Depending on the size of your tank and the amount of plant cover they may have eaten them.  It's unlikely she only had one fry.  They generally have all the fry within a period of a few hours and the mother usually doesn't eat them but they other mollies will have noticed she was giving birth and been following her waiting for snacks to appear.

  4. Mollies usually have all of their frys within a 24 hour period...if your aquarium doesnt have anything for them to hide under then im sorry but they were probably eaten

  5. Mollies do not have to have all their babies at once but more than likely they do. It is possible that your mollies fry could have gotten eaten by all of your other mollies. I guess you will just have to wait and see I would move the molly that was pregnant into the breeding tank just in case she does have more.
