I just wanted to see if anyone has seen the big deal of Universal Studios in Orlando and Florida Moms demanding that they take the billboard down?? I don't know what to think of this--I mean are we really turning into a society that does this?? Or is it really to graphic?? I have 3 kids and eventhough the billboard was kind of scary I wouldn't demand that they take it down. Maybe somebody can share some insight and make me see differently. I think that I copied down the link right.

  1. I saw a story about this, I wouldn't demand they take it down.  Heck 2 of my kids are absolutely terrified of the Bear in the Big Blue House (I don't know why) but I don't ask stores to take the products off the shelf.   There was a huge billboard of him at MGM studios at Disney World, we just tell the kids to look the other way.

Just because one person (or a group) doesn't like it doesn't mean that everyone should be prevented from seeing it.

  2. That billboard would have given me nightmares as a child, and I know my daughter would have had nightmares if she'd had to see a sign like that on a daily basis.

There are thousands upon thousands of ways to advertise their Halloween event on billboards that will draw attention and create interest without being gross and disgusting.  Personally, the violent blood-and-guts slasher stories that come out around Halloween aren't Halloween stories and aren't horror in my book.  Violence, yes.  Horror, no.  I agree with the mom in the article who said that every year Universal's Halloween event has strayed farther away from traditional Halloween themes and ventured further into violence and blood and gore: If the movies that are coming out are any indication, that statement has to be 100% accurate.

Universal wouldn't get my business if this billboard is typical of their advertising and if violence and gore is what they want to promote at Halloween.

  3. They have the right to ask anything that they like of a company.  As long as it's not doing anything illegal, the company has the right to decide whether they wish to lose those people as customers or to get bad publicity (although, sometimes bad publicity turns out to be free & positive to their bottom line).

I think the picture is creepy.  It might even give my kids (and me) nightmares or make it hard for us to fall asleep anyway.  But, there's nothing illegal about it, as far as I know.

  4. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/business/...  Try this link - it looks like it might be the billboard you are talking about.  Honestly, if I were a mom I would have a problem with this billboard.  Heck, I'm not a mom and I don't like it - it gives me the creeps.  I understand that companies have a right to advertise, but it is much more difficult to protect your children from seeing a billboard (as in, nearly impossible if you have to drive by it...) than it is to protect them from an internet ad or even a TV commercial. I do think that the billboard is in poor taste and reflects a lapse in judgement on the part of Universal Studios.

  5. that link has nothing to do with a billboard

  6. Well, that link didn't work but I googled it. In my opinion its not the type of photo that should be on a billboard. I think its a little gross and graphic. I really don't think I would want my girls looking at it.

  7. There is a difference between going to court to try to get something like that banned (inappropriate) and launching a campaign to get people to try to persuade the company the poster is in bad taste and they should take it down (entirely appropriate).  The company enjoys free speech, and so should the people who feel (reasonably, in my opinion) that it far exeeds the bounds of good taste and should be removed from a forum where people are essentially forced to look at it and where small children will end up seeing it.

  8. yeah, its about a nun going to jail.

  9. If you want to do politics then go to that section. I am Australian and couldn't care less about your push of political opinions. This is a parenting section for talking about parenting.

  10. is this a joke? Some boring old people talking politics and humm did I mention they were boring? I live in Orlando what sign do you speak of? The one for holloween horror nights? Or for the attractions? Confused.

LOL! People are crazy. It's public and bet its the same moms who whip there **** out at Mardi Gras in New Orleans. LOL
