Do monitors need to be plugged into computers to work?

i want to play my xbox 360 on car rides on a screen 12-19" that weighs 6lbs or under. What screen would be good and if it is a monitor, does it need a desktop like thing or can the monitor just be good with an xbox 360 and power?

  1. In short, monitors work whether they are plugged into a computer or not. They work as long as they are plugged into a power source and switched on. As for if a computer monitor is compatible with a gaming system like an Xbox, it is possible with the right adapters. If your monitor has was is called a VGA port, and you get a VGA connector, then it is possible. Check the below listed sites for detailed info.  


  2. Computer monitors are not equipped to handle the input from an XBOX. You would need a small flatscreen TV or something similar in order to do what you want.  

  3. no. all you need is an S-Video Cable or a monitor cable or whatever the xbox 360 uses! and try modifying your cars roof to implant your monitor upside down :-) and then program your Xbox to turn your screen upside down!!!
