  1. This is all I got - "at least 850000 Americans are home-schooled" - www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/08/25/backt...

  2. I went too pubic skool and I tink the pecentage of homeskooled  is like 5%....can you believe that....that's almost a 1/3!

  3. Depends on where you get your stats.  The US Government says about 5% other sources say it is more like 15%.

It is up 1000% from 1980.  It is a growing trend and it is estimated by the end of this century 25% will homeschool.

Homeschooling and Distance Learning is becoming a big business.

By the 22nd Century a school like Harvard may make more from Distance Learning than from on campus classes.

They charge the same fees whether your brick or distance.

They have room for something like 400 incoming brick students at $50K a year.  Now if you can teach 4,000 Distance people at $50K a year you are doing far better.

Work at home is also becoming big.

Today 5-10% of the people WORK AT HOME at least 60% of the time.

This HOME thing is a growing trend and allows companies to stop having BRANCH OFFICES

Boiler room orgnaizations are slowly vanishing.

Anyone can become a telemarketer from home in the near future, you just log on to a system.

You can help people with their banking, insurance problems, stock purchases from home via SSL

Psychic help lines pioneered this.  They used to use boiler rooms, but now that do it from home with a dedicated telelphone and an SSL connection on the internet.

A friend of mine makes $500 a week doing this from home.

AND she can write some of her stuff off her taxes and get a tax break!

She can write that phone line off.   She can write off her percentage of internet hours.  She can write off a dedicated room in her apartment or house and take a percentage of rent, mortgage, electricity.

This gives you an extra $2,000+ a year in deductions you can do in Schedule C

Homeschool has not yet reached that point, unless parents talk with tax people and establish a dedicated room in their home as an official school.

Some states make this possible by their rules.

A state that REQUIRES and accredited program.  A state that REQUIRES attendence records and bookkeeping gives you a POTENTIAL Schedule C tax deduction, but consult an accountant who is an EA to determine the legality of this potential deduction.

If the State forces you to become an OFFICIAL school, you may enjoy a business tax break.

This comes from the FORCED aspect.

If they require you to make it a business, then you are usually entitled to a business tax deduction, that can include HALF the cost of noon time meals.

Half the cost of outside entertainment if it is done for business purposes.

A 15-25% deduction of rent or mortgage for a 100% dedicated room for teaching.

Consult with a TAX expert to make sure you are on solid ground with this aspect.

If you are you, too, can enjoy an extra $2,000 a year write off using Schedule C

That only amounts to about $200 in tax money, but hey, if you get $200 more back in a refund check that's cool!

What is that, half a year of Penn Foster supplies.

  4. According to the National Home Education Research Institute…

“There were an estimated 1,700,000 to 2,100,000 children (grades K-12) home educated during 2002-2003 in the United States. Homeschooling appears to still be the fastest-growing form of education.”

By far more American children attend public schools (an addtional segment attends private, non-home based, schools, usually religious)

  5. More people go to public school. Use common sense.

  6. I don't know maybe .01%

  7. The majority of the students in the United States are still attending conventional school, public, private, charter, and virtual.

Home schooling is however growing steadily, and at a faster rate every year.

The percentage of home schoolers differs from state to state.

Not all states have notification, or registration requirements, and therefore the numbers that represent who are currently being home schooled, or the growth in these states in not always included in the statistics, and high school age students often times not required to notify, or register after age 16.

For the most current home school statistics visit

Even their number could be under reported due to the above mentioned reasons,  however they have done extensive research in the area of home schooling, the reasons, and it's outcome.

  8. It's hard to answer your question with an accurate number, because the definition of homeschooling differs from state to state. For example, my daughter is enrolled in a public school home study program, and here in California that is considered one form of homeschooling, according to HSLDA, see Options for Home Schools #4:

    http://www.hslda.org/laws/default.asp?St...

However in other states, enrollment in a public program explicitly makes you a non-homeschooler.

If you mean how many students learn primarily under the supervision of their parents and don't attend school 5 days per week, I've heard it's about 2-3%. Compared to 10% attending private (tuition-based) schools.

That would leave 87-88% attending public (free, government-funded) schools.

  9. Public schools

  10. public of course not many parents want to deal with home school about 1/3 of kids home school which is a great start

  11. more people go to public school...i dont know the exact percent  thou!!! i hope this helps!!!

  12. Very few Americans homeschool.  I believe the number is around 1% of all students.

  13. Most people go to Public school. To me homeschooling is just a way for your parents to keep tabs on you, and no where you are and what you're doing at all times. I honestly think homeschooling is a bunch of c**p. It doesn't teach you the most important elements of education, and that is how to function in a normal society. While at home school, it's just you and the teacher, no other students, no one else to socialize with, and that's just not how the world is. You have to be able to work in groups at work and socialize with other people. If you're always alone and were never around other kids your own age in a school setting, then nine times out of ten you'll live a lonely life. Just my own point of view about it!! Hope that helps.

  14. Homeschoolers learn early on how to look things up and not have to be spoon-fed information by other people.

  15. The percentage is small.  It requires a lot of time and effort to do homeschooling; most families don't have the necessary financial resources.
