Do more women go to church than men?

Is there a historical aspect to this? I know that Christianity has often been revered as a religion that helps & gives second chances? Is that why I have noticed often that there are more women in church than men? Thanks for the responses.

  1. I don't go to church, so I really don't know.  That said, I don't understand why any self-respecting woman would worship a Christian god that requires that she submit to a man, keep silent in church, and blames her for bringing sin into the world.

    The mind boggles.

  2. Spirituality is generally considered sensitive. It requires sensitivity to be aware of a divine presence. Generally, women are more sensitive than men. Also, some sects of Christianity are very emotionally charged. Again, women are more in touch with their emotions & willing to express them.

  3. Women live a lot longer. Most of the women I know o f the church going variety are widows. By the dozen too, they seem to befriend each other.

  4. Yes, women are more spiritually inclined than men.

  5. We all (male and female) need second (and 3rd, and 4th, and 5th, etc) chances.

As for the USA present (many) churches have more females than males (rule of thuumb; not ABSOLUTE) men tend to be more 'logical' than emotional than women. There are 8 points of 'logic' were the church (that I grew up in)and scripture do not match.

  6. yes  generally you find  more women than men in the church  in russia  it was the grandmas  that kept the faith alive  when it was banned  by the government.

  7. Women are more gullible.

  8. Why would women need more help and second chances than men?

  9. I have noticed this as well.

Of those with gray hair, I'd say 2/3 of those who attended church with me this morning were women, perhaps 3/4, but I wasn't counting.

Of the college kids who attended, I'd say at least 80% were girls as well, maybe more.  This one guy who was sitting behind me did not go up to receive communion with his girl friend.

This young lady is heading for trouble if she marries this guy.

I don't know why, but I have observed the same thing.

Perhaps women are more willing to admit they need help than men.

    I don't know.

  10. I think western culture may have an impact on the number of women in attendance in the church. Women are seen as more emotional while men are supposed to hide emotion. Giving yourself over to an all powerful God might be a sign of weakness for some men, while women might be encouraged to look for help.

  11. Yes... and that was the case in my church I dropped out of Christianity and religion altogether, but I must say that some of the ladies were very nice to the younger deacons and I had some problems that I rather not discuss here...

  12. I think 80%women/20%men approx.

    Why? I don't know.

  13. I believe the church is an institution used for social control and economic gains.  The reason why women predominate the congregation is because they are more vunerable.
