I'm asking this because I have been to Turkey twice,

once 5yrs ago and a once a few months ago.

5yrs ago I was in Istanbul, and then not so many women wore hijab but when I recently visited Trabzon at least 80% of women were wearing hijab.

Has there been a change in the last few years so that more women wear hijab (or is Trabzon just a more conservative city)

Coz wear I live (A Western country) many more more women wear hijab now than did a few years ago. Is it same in Turkey too?

  1. Unfortunately yes..

  2. farzia as soon as you arrive to Turkiye you can take off your scarf.we dont use the word hicap.it s funny let me tell you.it like pick up truck.

  3. I moved to Istanbul 5 years ago and rarely ever saw women in the hijab and maybe one out of 25 women had a headscarf but now I see more of the hijab and probably see 1 out of 10 women with a headscarf on the street.  I think it is changing.  As I know though, Trabzon is a more conservative city.

(Just for my two cents worth, I think it is fine if they want to wear a headscarf or the whole deal but don't tell me I have to wear it and don't look bad on me because I don't.  I think it is everyone's right to wear what they want or what they believe they should....as long as it isn't forced on someone, more power to you.  :)  Sorry had to add that in... )

  4. trabzon and istanbul are different cities. ppl are different. beliefs are different. go konya you would be like you are in iran

  5. No, I think less people wear them, even in the small villages in the southwest of Turkey where there used to be many covered ladies walking about in the 90s.
