Do mosquitoes help our ecosystem?

I am wondering, cause I find them as a PEST!

Well, mostly everything is pretty much related somehow. If we didnt need mosquitos why would we have them on the planet? Think of it this way, mosquitoes are eaten by dragon flies (and other things), dragonflies could be eaten by birds, birds could be eaten by other carnivore, and on and on the cycle goes!

Yes, they do help our ecosystem. It is also a fact that they are pests. Everything is eaten by something though how they get eaten is a different story.

Every creature has it's purpose -

1. Pollination

2. Food for other animals.

3. Population control - when they spread disease.

Another thing is that the worth of a creature may not be entirely known now but in the course of future you may find that they are more than just pest. Example - most of the animals are becoming extinct. So when most of the insects die out the mosquitoes who are far more adaptable and resistant to pesticides will become a major prey for the animals that have learned to adapt as well.

they get eaten by birds and fish and spiders, which in turn get eaten by other things, which in turn get eaten by other things. and so on.  but there is no need for an overabundance of them, put up a bug zapper and sit around it all night and cheer each time you hear the little zap sound.  It's fantastic.

dragonflies eat TONS of mosquitoes..they let them loose in our suburb to curb mosquito population

If mosquitoes disappeared, there would be lots of consequences.  Whether the good ones outweighed the bad ones depends on your point of view.  From the point of view of malaria parasites, mosquitoes certainly help the ecosystem.

From our point of view, I don't know what all the results would be if they disappeared, and it could well be that some of them were unpleasant.
