I just feel really bad because when I make these remarks about Canadians having 2 bellybuttons and living in Igloos and Polar Bears running around Point Pelee, stuff like that.....

I'm just kidding, but it's hard to tell on a message board.

But seriously, I like your country so much and if I didn't I wouldn't want to be cheesy and play the role of a dumb American and play sarcastic with Canadian folks on the board. I feel bad if I came across as mean in my "Bellybutton" question.

I want to apologize if I came across rude.

  1. CANADIALAND!!

long live the free loading nation!

    forget aboot et

  2. Everyone has a different sense of humor.

I laugh at most jokes my American friends make, and then I throw some jokes back at them.

I think if the person was truly ignorant (to the point where they actually think we live in igloos), that would get annoying.

Remember, it's somewhat natural for Americans to know less about us Canadians than we know about them.  Media travels north, so we're exposed to more news and culture from our neighbours.

I think it's funny, though.  And I enjoy entertaining my American friends with fabulous tales of bagged milk and the magical conveyor belt at The Beer Store.

  3. were really sarcastic people ourselves, and believe me, we get that all the time. it probably didnt come across offensive.

  4. Actually yeah...It kinda does p**s me off when people make those stupid remarks...none of them are true. But I'm glad you feel bad about it...you actually have consideration

  5. My boss is from Canada and every time something goes wrong in the office, I spout "d**n Canadians! It's all their fault!" She thinks it's funny.

  6. awww, i think you have a crush!

  7. If its a light joke..then I don't mind.

However if its meant to be rude...I get pissed..its understandable.

Then there are the people who really don't know the truth.

    - My cousin from Chicago visits us a couple times a year. He knows a lot about Canada. He told me that he was in class and his teacher said Canadians live in igloos. He told her she was wrong but she didn't listen. No wonder they are so ignorant..their teachers don't even know the truth.

Of course, not everyone is like that...but a whole lot are!!!

  8. These days, there are so much rude, unpleasant and just plain stupid comments about Canada and Canadians that it isn't fun any more.

I wonder how Americans would react if there was half as much nastiness about them in an American section?

  9. Well, I don't mind a little bit, but too much gets old... I really gets to a point where we want revenge, then we go and make a few comments and then we get hate mail about being anti-americans. It's happened to me ;). And some people take that seriously. I have american friends, I make fun of them, they make fun of me. But we are FRIENDS...

I remember years ago, I watched an episode of "Due South". The only one I ever watched... The guy was a dumb mounty, dressed in his ceremonial suit, and I'm sure under that he had the long johns with an opening on the .... derriere... He went around with his horse and climbed telephone poles to phone!!! Insulting a little bit.

Now, like I tell my 11 year old son, a little joke is funny, but it gets old after a while, and the only one that finds it funny is yourself.

OH! one last thing: I don't know anybody who sais "aboot"

  10. No, I don't find it rude. Heard it a million times before. I hope I'm not being rude by mentioning the fact that it is a person's ignorance (not knowing) to make stereotypes without researching the facts first. Your apology is accepted although I didn't find it rude. Take it easy. Cheers!

  11. It always makes me smile, Rick Mercer turned ignorance about Canada into a TV show

I think we always feel superior, so it doesn't matter too much to us
