Do most gyno's do a rectal exam, my friend went to the gyno yesterday and she had to sit in a dog-like...?

position on the exam table while the gyno stuck a finger in her butt. Is this common, I'm having an exam tomorrow and I dont kno what to expect.

yes, most do a rectal exam.  i've never had to sit like a dog for one, but maybe that's just how that gyno does it. there's always a nurse in the room at the same time though, so it's completely fine. they do a breast exam, pelvic exam, and rectal exam as well as a pap smear.

In all my years (at least 18) I have never had a rectal exam from my Gyno. WTFluck?

Before the exam begins , be sure to ask what exactly is going to take place. And make sure that a female is in the room to assist(witness) the exam i.e. a nurse, medical assistant.

Maybe  your friend has some female issues that she didn't share with you. But like I stated in the beginning, I have Never heard of such. Good Luck and hold your Gyno accountable. Ask about specifics up front.

Two of the three I've been to did, but the third was in a hurry as I was the last patient of the day so she may do it regularly too.  Although it's always just been while on my back in the stirrups, not doggie style.

Sometimes, but you can refuse it if you are not comfortable with it.

Alot of them do a rectal exam, because it is easier for them to feel the backside of your uterine wall from that position.  They only put one finger in, and it's not like they leave it there for a long time or anything.  It will feel a little uncomfortable, but nothing you cant handle.
