  1. Pasta is generally boiled in 6 qts of water per pound of pasta.

    Reheated with olive oil, garlic and broccoli!


  2. Good italian restaurants will use a lot of olive oil.  Places like Olive garden and other crappy, sub-par chains will use a ton of butter.  Ask your server how it's prepared.

  3. Food yes, But Pasta should always be cooked in boiling salted water. then added to the sauce, which would contain olive oil.

    Some exceptions would be fried fish or anything deep fried would be peanut or vegetable oil    In any saute dishes, olive oil is the oil of choice.

  5. I'd have to say yes, but as an Italian, traditional Italian food does contain a fair amount of olive oil anyways.  

    As a nutritionist, I'd have to warn you that MOST restaurants use oil, butter, and other fats to flavor, and keep the foods moist.  Especially buffet style restaurants, or cafeteria style dining as the food sits longer.  The cooked veggies in these places in particular are swimming in oils [although they taste great, and you wouldn't notice otherwise].  Butter or oil is frequently used to cook your steaks with that "steakhouse" flavor.  As much as I hate to admit it to my thighs, this is the truth, unless you can find a healthy restaurant.  

    As a mom, I try to limit our visits to restaurants and for take out to a couple times per year.  I like to know what and how much we are eating, and to give them the best choices I can for the calories.  It is estimated that families who regularly eat out 3 or more times a week, eat on average a minimum of an additional 1000 calories, some PER DAY.  The fat intake is three to four TIMES what it should be PER DAY.  Those pounds [as much as I wish they would] DO NOT melt away.

Depending on the region in Italy that the recipe was created.  Some areas use butter or lard others olive oil.  Original recipes used products that were easily obtained.  So for instance if the region had a lot of goats, cows or sheep they used milk if it had tons of olive trees then olive oil was used.
