  1. of course you can ask them to remove the crust from your sandwich, and it's not to the same to do it yourself -- it's called good service, and I'm willing to tip a bit more for it.

  2. All good restaurants provide this service. If you ask, they will put the crusts in a container with a lid for you to take home to feed the children. On a sandwich or on the table right there in front of you. Sometimes they bring a cutting board and a range of knives for you to choose from. If you insist they cut the crusts off on a sandwich, they will suggest you order a toast sandwich. Toasted bread provides a sturdier surface on which to cut crusts.  Either way, the knives are very sharp, so keep your fingers far away when that waiter/waitress is hacking away at the crusts. Don't forget to ask them to smooth the edges of the bread slices after the crusts have been removed, otherwise the edges of the de-crusted slices tend to crumble. There are special bread-edge hardener sauces. They are free if you order more than ten slices to be de-crusted. Be careful though about the sandwich. A normal sandwich cannot support more than four or five slices being de-crusted on it. If you want the ten-crust-free-edge-hardeners deal, you should order two toast sanwiches. Three would be best, just to be on the safe side. You have refined taste.

  3. uuuuuuuggggghhhhh.............no.  unless its some restaurant in a retirement home and they cant do it themselves.  if someone asks for their crusts to be cut off, chances are they are just LAZY boogs.
