For the 1st 11 yrs. of my life, I had all sorts of medical problems. Heart murmur @ age 2, 2 strokes @ age 5-both were a week apart, eye surgery @ age 5, nose surgery twice, strep throat, scarlet fever, behavior disorder, arthritis, (they even thought I was @ risk for Pervasive Developmental Disorder), & other illnesses. I was sick ALL the time. By 7th grade, I somehow (magically) didn't have much medical problems, but then I was diagnosed with OCD & Tourette's. I suffered depression & anxiety all my life. I'm 24, almost 25 now. & I still suffer OCD, TS, depression, & anxiety. Plus, I suffer irritable bowel syndrome & obesity. The cause of the obesity is a side effect of my antidepressants.

  1. There are a lot of people that have a lot of medical problems, you are not alone.

But I think the majority has only one or a few.

You were one of them blessed (or damned however you wish to look at it) with a lot, but you are such a great person and have wisdom beyond your years.

But I'll tell you what, everyone has some kind of problems, so you are in no way alone.  It seems like it sometimes but no.

My best friend has a 20 yo daughter that has been profoundly mentally handicap since birth.  She's at a 3 yo level or less.  the mom is 62 and her only wish in life is to live one day longer than her daughter so she can make sure she is being well taken care of.  My heart aches for her and what she has to put up with in her life at this point when she should be relaxing and taking it easy.

No you are not alone with your problems, we all understand as we all are there or close or have been there at one time or another.

  2. I had numerous health problems. I was sick all of the time. It wasn't hypochondria; the doctor always found a problem and I was hospitalized many times before I was 5 years old.

It was pretty much over when I was a teen. Also when I was a teen-ager, I thought that is why my parents didn't like me - because I caused them so much trouble as a young child. Of course as an adult, I realize that none of that was my fault at all.

The funny thing is I am very healthy now. I do have trouble with depression but other than that my blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar etc. are great.

  3. I had a lot of health issues as well. I was born with two holes in my heart and required open heart surgery at 6 months old. I was so big when I was born (10 lbs 13 ounces) that I broke my collarbone (I was a vaginal birth). When I was 6 I had surgery to remove my adenoids. I have sleep apnea and have to use a CPAP machine to sleep at night, otherwise I stop breathing. I had constant ear infections from the time I was born until I was 13 when I had surgery on my ear, which was somewhat successful--I don't have infections any more but I am now partially deaf.

    It SUCKS, doesn't it!

  4. Well you certainly have had more than your share, but it is very interesting.  Many of these are related, and many are auto-immune disorders.

The heart murmur and strokes, congenital condition, probably so with the eye and nose surgeries.

Strep, scarlet fever, arthritis, PDD, IBS all auto-immune

Most immune systems are full functioning by age 6, yours obviously wasn't until 7th grade.

OCD is anxiety based, so is IBS, and it is a component to Tourettes, and PDD

Tourettes, depression, and PDD are all related to a chemical imbalance with the neurotransmitter serotonin

Tourettes and PDD are characterized by macrocephaly (large head greater than 95th%tile growing up, it evens out in adulthood.
