Question:

Do motorized recliners last?

I am buying a couch with two motorized recliners - so comfy! I'm just nervous about the motor part. It didn't come with any other option. It does come with a manufacturers warranty for one year but I could buy an extra one with the furnture store. Any opinions? My friends told me NOT to buy motorized but I love it and it will be great to watch movies on my big screen tv.

  1. This is the Home Theater Electronics forum, where the discussions are centered around technical home theater system and TV operational and elelctronics problems, not recliners. I suggest you go to Y/A Categories and find one of the over 100 forum and sub-forum categories that better fits your question, and you might get some answers.

  2. Just like anything else with an electric motor, it can ware out. If it's a good quality and you have a warranty I wouldn't worry too much. It won't hurt to ask the retailer "what happens if the motor breaks..." they can tell you about the options. Most of these types of mechanical devices are of good quality but it's up to you to treat them well. Also heed the care instructions closely. Things like operating the chair with too much weight (like having you, your kids, your dog and camping equipment on the chair all at once) or constant abuse ("Whee! Look how fast I can rock!") can make that motor die quickly. Normal use with careful awareness from you should make it last many years. An extended warranty is generally good with furniture pieces. The upholstery alone is good reason.
