I am in my twenties (27), For most of my adult life I have had a regular exercise routine(5-6 times weekly). I stopped my last regular routine about 6 months ago and just started another about a week ago. Will I get in shape faster (muscle memory) or is it all a myth? Thanks.

  1. Muscle memory is not literal memory, but rather memory in the brain of how the brain controlled movement and coordination. Already knowing that subconsciously helps in repetitive tasks. However, getting into shape will be aided by the fact you exercised before and are probably in descent shape, not technical muscle memory.

  2. In 6 month, may be it could have memory.

  3. You can get in shape faster because your brain remembers all the coordinated procedures and you can relearn them much quicker the second time.  The muscles themselves don't have any memory but they do have the ability to add more enzymes to reduce lactic acid so it is possible some of those enzymes or the ability to produce them might still be there.
