  1. Prussian tradition dictates it.

  2. It varies considerably from country to country the degree to which Muslim women cover themselves.  In some countries it is just a headscarf, in others it is full covering.

And it is for going out, not at home.  At home they can be uncovered.

Until fairly recently, it was considered proper for women in western societies to have their heads covered when they went out as well.  Wearing of hats by women when they went out was still widespread until the 1960s.

  3. They're allowed to take it off when they go home to immediate family members, or in front of other women.

They can't take it off in front of men that they're not related to.

  4. Not all Muslim women cover their heads and faces, and those that do usually only do so if they are outside their homes or in the presence of a man who is not either their husband or a very close male relative (such as a father or brother).

The reason women do wear the veil does vary. Modesty and avoiding the lustful gaze of men are often cited as reasons for the wearing of this type of head covering. In some places it is cultural, in others traditional.

Many women advise that they wear a head covering because it is something the prophet Mohammed asked women to cover their heads if they are devout and faithful believers.

In many places, men who are devout also wear special clothing.

Many kinds of material and cloth are used to make the head and face covering worn. Once again, these are dictated by factors as various as tradition, cultural practice, personal wealth and fashion.

    Cheers :-)

  5. Some Arab countries don't require full face covers.  e.g. Iraq, Jordan, Syria.

And no, they only require covering in public places.

  6. The way I understand it, and I am no expert, they must wear the veil, the burkha, when they leave the house and are in public.  If they work they can remove the burkha, if they work in an all woman environment.  This rule is not in the Koran, but it is a traditional law that dates back for centuries.  If they do not  wear it they can be beaten on the streets and arrested.  There are religious police that roam the streets looking for "lawbreakers."  I have read that it is not against the law to rape a woman if she is in public without the burkha.  That was in the book "Princess," about Saudi royals.

Edit:  I expect that this answer will be wrongfully reported ad deleted because they are very emotional when it comes to ay negative information leaking out.  The woman who wrote the book, while out of the country was imprisoned for life when she returned.
