Hi, ive been told that my childcare payments will go down as 3 year olds get 12 and a half hours of free care each week from the govt. does anyone know when this takes effect. My son is 3 and I pay £680 a month to put him in nursery a month. He goes there for 10 hours a day. Will i get my bill reduced this month as the term for kids starting their free education is sept???

  1. My god, 10 hours a day. I hope you look at the studies showing the emotional problems small children suffer from such detachment.

Maybe being with you more would be worse though.

Do what you got to do, but jeez.

You need to apply for the vouchers, ask your son's surrogate family, uh I mean nursery about that.

Also if you're a single mum or even not, make sure you're claiming all you can, depending on how much you earn, a large amount of childcare could be payed for you. So give the Department of social security a call!

  2. It depends which month he was born - this site tells you.

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Parents/Pres...

  3. £680 that is expensive my son goes to a childminder full time and that is £540,,yes you are rite and its instead of them going to a school nursery they get 2 and half hours free at a private one!! Just have a word with the nursery owner.

  4. Why don't you ask the director of the childcare nursery?

  5. Why don't you be a stay-at-home mother?  How on earth will he even KNOW who his mother is if he's away from you for ten hours a day?

Nothing is free, you should know that.

  6. if he is 3 before this term starts(sept) then yes he will get funding as soon as the new term starts, he will get 12.5 hrs but in  5 2.5 hrs payments, so if he only goes one day you will probably only get one 2.5 hrs a day paid for, some nurseries claim for a morning session and an afternoon session, so you may get 5 hrs a day free, it is best to speak to the nursery.

  7. First it all depends on the daycare, If they are in diapers, or not fully potty trained this will always cost more, once they can take care of personal things by themselves some will reduce the price.

Are you working 10 hours a day ?

That is allot of hours to be apart from a 3 year old if you don't have to.

  8. I don’t have any advice to give you but that I do feel your pain. And I have to add in that not ALL of us are able to stay at home with our children. And you need to do what you have to do for your family. Your child isn’t being “raised by someone else” and your child darn well knows who his Mommy is. He knows you love him and he knows you’re always there for him.

h**l, I was in daycare nonstop as a child. But my mother and father both had to work. They didn’t get benefits or anything free, they had to work. And my sister and I were raised the same way. I would LOVE to stay home with my son but seriously, does anyone else SEE the economy as it is? Sure, we can point out all the ‘negative’ of working and leaving your poor, poor children at home. But you can also see the positive benefits a child can get from social interaction at daycare. And well, I have no darn choice here in sending my son to daycare. It’s the way it is.

Not everyone is lucky enough to be able to afford to stay at home with their children. And I just wanted you to know that you’re not alone here. Some of us have to work for a living…..

Best of luck to you !
