I have two foals that are both a month old and alot of the time that I see them out in the field they are laying down either resting or sleeping. Do they sleep too much? Is there something wrong with them? Has anyone else ever had this problem? Do they need that much rest?

  1. All baby animals (mammals, at least) sleep a LOT, from horses, to dogs, to humans.  It's what their bodies need to grow.

  2. It's not a problem.  If they don't get up when you walk out there, it might be a problem.

  3. just like human babies, sleep all the time.  I currently have two, and everytime I look around they are sleeping.  When they do get up, it is to eat or nurse.

  4. Definitely not.  They're just babies, doing what babies do.  Eat, sleep & p**p lol.

  5. They sleep as that is when they are growing.  They eat, play a short time then drop and snore for about 1/2 hour. Get up, suckle, walk around and sniff a few things, drop and snore.

As he gets older they sleep less.

  6. Nothing else than can do. Eat...sleep. At this point that is what they should be doing.
