Do neurologists work with neurosurgeons?

  1. They could, but they usually have separate practices.  They are likely to refer to one another.

    Neurologists and neurosurgeons are totally different animals.  One is medical, the other surgical.  The two specialties complement each other, and there is some overlap, as they are both dealing with brains and nerves.

    Neurologists don't do surgery.  There's no law keeping them from working with neurosurgeons, but there isn't really any reason why they would.


  2. They not only work together, they can be one and the same. In fact, if a neurosurgeon is going to operate on my brain, I am going to make sure he has outstanding credentials in neurology. On the other hand, a good neurologist can diagnose my problem, which might involve my brain and require surgery on that organ, but all he/she needs to know beyond that is the name of a good neurosurgeon to whom they can refer me.

    A surgeon of any kind always commands more pay than physicians in other specialties.
