  1. Yes, they are a part of the Nucleus of an atom.


  2. Although the strong force (force that holds nucleus of atom together) is powerful, electromagnetic repulsion of same charged protons would eventually rip the nucleus apart.   Neutrons help to add more strong force and in a sense act like glue to help an atom's nucleus to stay together.

  3. A nucleus that would be made of more than one proton without any neutron would not be stable, as the protons would have too much repulsive electric force and the nucleus would break apart.
