I have cd/rw/dvd rom drive with a 40 pin IDE interface. My brother bought a new Dell compujter. However, the motherboard does not have a 40 pin IDE interface. Is this wierd, or has that kind of interface been phased out on new motherboards.

  1. Many new boards no longer support IDE. The current standard is SATA.

  2. a lot of new motherboards do not have the IDE interface anymore but dont get worried about it to much if you need it there are still some that have it if you build your own computer they also make expansion cards for them and even a little converter that you can stick on to change it to the new SATA standard so you can  plug it in and use it if you have to

  3. depends on the prcessor you want.
