Question:

Do newer VCRs have more channels to accommodate digital cable?

I'm going to try this question again since no one seemed able or willing to answer it last time. I'll just lay it out simply.

Older VCRs, the only ones which I have, only have the ability to record on up to about 125 channels, meaning that any channel with a number over 125 cannot be recorded from.

Digital cable goes up into 200+ channel numbers, meaning that if you have digital cable and an older VCR, you cannot record on any channel over #125.

So have newer VCRs been made with more channels, even up into the 800s, to accommodate recording on the higher channel numbers of digital cable? Or is a DVR the only way to possibly record anything on digital cable? Please answer.

  1. nope, no plans to produce a VCR to record digital TV. The reason is that Digital TV is too detailed for the tape to handle.
