Do newspaper columnists ever get to work at home?

I was wondering if it would be possible for someone to be a stay at home mom and a newspaper columnist at the same time.

  1. When I was a newspaper columnist, that is where I worked, at home and in the field.  I covered local events (like the Singing Angels LOL concerts), street fairs, car and boat shows, etc.  So I interviewed people and went with a photographer to the events, but basically took notes there and went home to actually write the article.  Most of the time, I now see reporters with their laptops writing the articles while they are covering an event (i.e. at our school board meetings they write while they listen).  Whether they have to put in office time, I don't know, I only went in to the office for meetings at which I needed to "Show face".
