Question:

Do nomex gloves work well for karting?

I'm considering getting nomex racing gloves for karting seeing as how I'm moving into cars soon and I was wondering if nomex gloves come apart like their suit counterparts do in karting.

Thanks in advance!

  1. I use to hate gloves.  Now I don't drive with out them.  Nomex gloves in the $60-$100 are much better than the $20 gloves.  External or limited stiching helps with comfort.

  2. if you have a military base, or surplus store, see if they have the nomex tanker or flight gloves. they are very comfortable, and great protection

  3. What do other people use at the track? you do go to the track don't you? nomex is not a brand, its a flame resistant fiber, it depends on who makes the glove. Like Bell, Simpson, RCI etc....If you buy Bell or Simpson or even RCI they will last. I never use NOMEX gloves. For my body yes i do use nomex (Simpson), for my head(its to hot + i have a helmet on) and hands i don't. I dont know why you would. I just use my Mechanix gloves (or nothing, I like the to feel the wheel) for racing.

  4. I use nomex gloves when karting... though my choice of gloves was aimed at something I use in my car at the track.  In terms of grip and feel, they are great and I can't imagine not using them (or using something other than driving gloves).  Compared to karting gloves, the main difference is usually the nomex material... unlike nomex driving suits though, the gloves are still aimed to handle some abrasive wear (it's not the material as much as the design and other aspects).

Though, my perspective is aimed mainly from someone that drives often and karts for the occassional tuneup and a bit of fun when there's nothing on the schedule.  Karting does seem a little harder on the gloves than what I have normally at the track, but nothing that's caused them to tear or wear dramatically faster.
