Question:

Do nuclear power plants repel clouds?

I recently got a job on a nuclear site. It was slightly rainy today. Some of the old dudes on site said that if you watched the clouds you would see them part as they passed the plant because of the electromagnetic field. It looked like they actually did part, so I was wondering if this is an actual fact and if that is the actual reason.

  1. No - in fact the cooling towers will actually create clouds if it is cool enough. The magnetic field will have no effect on the clouds.

Now if the cooling towers are blowing off air that is dryer than the clouds, it may cause the clouds above them to 'dry' out - looking like they are parting.

  2. no they have no effect on clouds really at all. if they were to do something with the weather id say create more clouds because you got all that water vapor that comes out of them and that could help create more clouds around the area.
