  2. The IOC does not pay them any money, but their home country may. The real money to be made is in endorsements. Michael Phelps will make millions in his lifetime because of his Olympic gold.

  6. Not from the IOC ,but from others, and quite substantial sums too. The afghan guy who took the bronze in taekwondo was awarded 50000$. Some money to spend in Kabul...

  7. They get whats called Endorsements. Basically if you get a medal u  then have money for you if you can stay at the top.

    Inother words if somoene  beats phelps reocord in one of the races he competed here in the 2008 olympics all of the money he was being paid would stop. But he would still have the money he was being paid up to that point. Its really confusing.

  8. The Australian Gov is spending $17 million on the Australian athletes who won Gold at Beijing 2008 Olympics. What a waste of taxpayer's money!
