Do one have to have a driver's license in order to buy a car?

Me and my wife plan to by a car in the US next year. None of us has an American driver's license. My wife is an American citizen and I am a Swedish citizen.

if you going to pay the car in full amount No you do not have to have a driver's license but if you guys plan to finance the car than yes they require one and also you have to have full coverage insurance for the car...........its required that you have a driver's license when you go to register the car for insurance, however some insurance companies don't care as long as you have a permit they will get you insuared if you have a driver's permit. i hope that helped you out and answered your question! good luck with your New car and welcom to the States.

www.dmv.org, then select the state you will buy in, it may provide guidance.  Regs vary by state, the main issue is insurance.  Most states require a license to purchase insurance, but not to purchase car.  Most everyday stuff is regulated by the States around here!
