I am sure they did not, but my boss is insistant that he has one. I told him that Microsoft produced them, and that they lost the format battle, but I would not bet my life that I am right.

  1. I'm pretty sure sony is producing blu-ray disc players.

  2. No way.  Sony pretty much invented Blu-Ray, so they wouldn't support something other then their own format.

  3. Sony doesn't have and wouldn't have the manufacturing rights to build an HD DVD player using the specifications outlines by that format. They have their own format, which is superior in many respects. They've invested millions into the development and promotion of their high definition format, called Blu Ray. I think the confusion is due to the fact that the term HD DVD is registered with the DVD forum, which is a group of companies that take it upon themselves to regulate the DVD industry. Since the term HD DVD is now a registered trademark, Sony can't use it for their own product.

  4. You can bet your life alright....Sony making HD DVD players is like Sony making a PS3 that can play XBOX games. Sony owns Blu-Ray....their competition is HD DVD which they just beat by the way.

  5. Your Boss may be a bit confused. Sony does make DVD players that will upscale movies to 720 and 1080 HD. But HD-DVD is not the same as a regular DVD. It can not be played on a regular DVD player.

Sony only make high definition players for Blu-ray format. Toshiba is the main manufacturer of HD-DVD players as of 2/19.

Microsoft makes a HD-DVD player for the Xbox 360 game system as a add-on. Which they announced they aren't going to make anymore. Blu-ray is the format of choice. The retailers, movie makers, and manufacturers are bailing-out on the HD-DVD format.

  6. Nope, Sony only makes Blu-Ray...
