Do oranges lose or gain vitamin c once off the tree?

  1. Oranges lose vitamin c on the tree and off the tree:

    Vitamin C decreases during the ripening process. Immature fruit has the highest levels.

    Sunlight exposure enhances vitamin C levels, shaded fruits have lower content.

    Early maturing varieties have higher levels that late maturing types.

    Stored oranges loose the most percentage of vitamin C in the first 2 weeks and at higher temperature.

    The sweeter the orange the higher the decomposition of vitamin C
