Due to construction our osprey couple’s nest was removed from a sports light fixture to a taller pole specifically built for them about 1 1/2 weeks ago, when the nest was removed we had a huge rain storm, I believe that the nest was relocated the next day. I have not seen the ospreys since, will they return? They have lived in their nest for over 16 years now.

  1. Dani gave you the straight scoop.  Time will tell.

  2. In most relocation attempts, ospreys indeed return to the nest, especially if it is in the immediate vicinity.  Of course, no one can say if they will or not for sure, but there is a good chance.  Ospreys use the same nests year after year, and will add new material every year, continually building the nest up and repairing it.

Just give them some time to adjust to the fact that it was moved.  And if they are done nesting for the year, they may not even return until next year.

Last night the trees were blown over

I wonder if I might get Progress Energy to put up a pole.
