Question:

Do other Americans living in Germany miss Halloween like I do?

We went out tonight and no one was dressed in costume like back in the States in Chicago. I was so disappointed and sad.

Does anyone else feel this way, or do other holidays here in Germany make up for it for you?

  1. i do miss that a lot, I try to have all holidays celebrated the same way as they are back home but it ususally doesn't work, our holidays are like the worst days of the year when you're not home.. ;.(

  2. Yes, Living in Switzerland where they also don't celebrate it, I've made a point of "imposing" myself on those that are willing. After being here for 5 years, I now have trick or treaters at my door, and had a very successful Masquerade party last Saturday!

  3. three years of missed halloweens and real thanksgivings

  4. No, I never was a big Halloween fan.  And the German Fasching is even worse.  I miss not having Thanksgiving here.  I always cook a Thanksgiving dinner anyway on the Sunday after the real Thanksgiving in the States.  Turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes. . . I don't wanna miss that!

  5. Karneval (February/March) will make up for missing Halloween. Plus it is soooooooooo much more fun!

Try to go to COLOGNE during that time and you can dress up every day. The whole City is a big party!

Sorry, that you miss Halloween so much! Maybe you need to go home and visit your family and Friends during that time of the year.
