I'm watching Nanny 911 on ABC family tonight. I'm laughing my butt off because Nanny Stella put one of the *parents* in time out for cursing! Who thinks that Nanny Stella had the right to do that to a grown woman?

  1. They asked her there to help them. Time out for cursing is appropriate for the kids so why wouldn't it be appropriate for the parents? That way, the kids know its not good to curse.

    Kudos for Nanny Stella!

  2. I saw that I was like right on Nanny Stella.I often let my daughter watch that show it's been effective because she see's their behavior and knows it's wrong and knows that the kids are going to be put in timeout she has often said to me that the kids on the show are bad or they need a timeout her behavior has actually improved since watching the show of course she watches it during the day thanks to dvr. hopefully her kids learned that the bad language isn't acceptable.

  3. i think it was a good idea bc kids pick up on our bad habits and i personally have a problem with cussing and my 3 yr old picks up on it

  4. I agree - she was right to do it!  Hubby and I were just watching it, and we were both laughing.  The idea of it was to get her to calm down and regain control of her emotions.  Heck, I give myself a "time - out" every now and then when I feel myself getting stressed.

  5. I was (am) watching the same thing! It was hilarious! I knew she would do it though, that mom really needed a time out and even a little more!

  6. hun

I think honestly that was a great idea as if a parent curses then naturally that teaches the child to do the same.So in putting the parents in time out that i think is a great role model move.As i believe it teaches the child that cursing is a bad naughty thing to do and you get put in time out for that.

  7. Yeah I'd say so.  This is why I stopped cursing when my kids came around.

  8. Go Nanny Stella! I was watching that too (although I do prefer Super Nanny) and am laughing at that as well. Parents swear in front of their children, and then yell at them for repeating it. They don't realize they are sending a mixed message.

If I swear around my kids by accident, I will sit them down and explain that it is a bad word and mommy was wrong for saying it. Then, if my kids repeat it, they get a time-out.

  9. I didn't see the show but do think it is funny. I often smack my own mouth when I say a cuss word around the kids! Still cuss but try not to, I also try to replace cuss words with nonsense saying "oh monkey bones"

  10. im a young mum (im 23) with a nearly 1yo and i try my best to not curse infront of my son or any child for that matter, kids pick up more than we give them credit for, my son makes a sound similar to s**t and i know that he got it from his father who has filthy mouth when it comes to cursing.

my nearly 5yo god daughter has picked up a few bad words but her mother and i explain to her that those words are not nice to say.

i think that more parents need to learn from Nanny 911, they have heaps of good ideas

  11. Nanny rocks

  12. LOL

I can't wait to see it!

Recoding it on the DVR right now!

    That's great.

  13. Ha Ha that's hilarious. I don't care for that show as much as Supernanny but I agree, parents need to realize that their kids will repeat things they hear and if the parents are cursing the kids will too.

The funny thing about those shows is the parents call the show hoping the nanny will change their children and what the nanny really ends up doing is changing the parents behavior, which in turn changes the kids behavior. If you notice it's always something the parent is doing wrong in their parenting style, not something wrong with the child.

  14. I think its a good idea. The parents sit in time out and it helps them remember that they need to watch what they say. Also the kids realize that if they do something wrong that they have to sit in time out too.

  15. Right on. I don't think parents realize that children can pick up on things VERY easily, especially when they are around it more.
