  1. actually some people say petroleum may not come from living organisms

  2. If the material ends up in the right location it does because it is a very delicate process to produce oil

  3. no its made from million year old plankton under extreme pressure.

  4. No crude oil comes from plant material thats been buried and compressed for millions of years.

  5. Our bodies likely will not turn into crude oil. Most of the

source rock material for petroleum comes from

organic material (largely algae) deposited in deep

water (anoxic) environments. A good example of this

is the Rifle formation in Colorado. Where near the surface

these deep freshwater lake deposits are kerogenated

marlstone (kerogen is the oily stuff in plant fat, and marlstone

is a dirty limestone). Where the deposits have been

faulted to greater depth in the overthrust belt, this is

the source rock for petroleum deposits. (Check the

details of this answer before using it for an assignment.)

As to us burning our ancestors, we are certainly burning

relatives, the notion of common descent is that all of

biology is descended from a common ancestor.

  6. Hi Leo,

Since our spirits leave our bodies when we die, it really doesn't matter what happens to the decaying matter- aside from all the terrific answers you've received on this subject.

  7. No worries everything recycles, the vapors go up into the atmosphere. So in a sense we do them a favor, instead of down in the pits, their up in the heavens. Cool name by the way.
