While some domestic animals are considered "people oriented", think about it - it all comes down to food in the end.  I don't walk out to the barn and hear everyone carrying on because they love me.  They know I am the keeper of the Triscuits.  If I don't have a feed bucket or a box of graham crackers, they could probably give a c**p if I'm there or not.
