  1. The present system is utilized because of the large numbers of children present. Not every child can be focused on. It is a passive system with the teachers handing out information to large groups.

Teaching children about their innate abilities is a parents job. I realized from my own experience in school that I could not depend upon the teachers to realize my children's abilities. As soon as I recognized the ways my children learned best, the teachers were told and the teachers were then expected to take this into account. I have emphasized and re emphasized this time after time. In addition I provide learning opportunities out of school. *I* make the learning make sense. When the large scale testing scores came in, I ripped them up. I don't care about the numbers, I want to turn to my children and say "Use this." and they will be able to go out and use that knowledge realistically. Use math to buy groceries, use the scientific knowledge to realize WHY something happens and use their artistic abilities to express what they sense. Little by little they realize "ahh, I can use this to do what I want!" and suddenly they have jobs outside of school, they are active learners instead of passive.

The teachers can teach them book learning, parents teach them the reality of it. That's our job.
