Do ovarian cysts hurt?

I just went to the E.R for EXTREME pain, it was my first day of my period, so I was already in pain with my cramps but it was much worst than usual, after the cat scan the doctor finally said I said a cysts on my ovaries, he said it was pretty big because he could see on the results(from the catscan) he also said that could be causing alot of my pain. Do these also prevent pregnancy, my mother said my aunt had cysts and she could never have kids because of them

I am 14.

And was hospitalized for 5 days becuase I had cyst on my uterus burst and cause internal bleeding, the days I was there, I didnt hear anything about cysts preventing pregnancy, although mine wasn't on my ovaries.

I know how painful that is. And Im sorry.

Pain may also occur if the cyst is twisted or causes twisting (torsion) of the fallopian tube.  Pain caused by ovarian cysts may be treated with pain relievers, including acetaminophen (Tylenol), nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), or narcotic pain medicine (by prescription) may help reduce pelvic pain.  Pain is usually caused by direct pressure from the cysts on the ovaries and surrounding structures.This causes chronic pelvic fullness or a dull ache.  Pain or discomfort in the lower abdomen.  Pain during intercourse is also associated with the presence of ovarian cysts.  The pain you feel depends on what the cyst contained, whether it is infected and whether there is any bleeding.

larger ones require a hospital admission, get back in touch with the dr, my friend had one and has just a had a baby boy! hope you are ok , tc.

yea they can hurt like m**o. Sometimes (esp with PCO) it can prevent you from having kids....or if it wraps around the F. Tube.

Yeah I had to get surgery for a dermoid cyst that was like 10cm wide. ICK it was painful and during volleyball season GRR.

Haha yea on my first day of high school three years ago, I passed out during class because of the pain
