I'm 18 and my mom says It's time for me to get my first pap smear.I've never had s*x so I'm a virgin, but I've been told that's not what it's about.it's a test for cervical cancer.I heard doctors stick something inside of you, what is it also?I am very nervous and scared because I'm very sensitive when it comes to pain.

  1. you will be fine, it does not hurt at all. if your obgyn was as nice  as mine (all female staff) you will have now worries/pain at all they will explain everything to you before hand if you're nervous. you go in get undressed they leave a gown (hospital type) out for you. the nurse comes in and takes down info, and then in comes the doc. you place your legs in stirrups, he/she will come in and lube up the speculum insert it swab you take it out and then examine the size/shape of your uterus with a gloved hand. the whole examination takes maybe 5 minutes tops i guess.

  2. no it just feels weird inside you for less than a second dont worry aobut anything

  3. it can hurt, it just feels like there is a lot of pressure down there, from the thing they open your v****a with. I always get nervous though, I just take deep breaths, and I know my dr. very well and I feel comfortable with her but everytime I get a pap smear I always get nervous, hello its my v****a!!!

  4. It's called a scapula, because it's shaped kinda like the bone in your shoulder. It goes in, and then they open it up a little. (don't worry they lube it up first). This allows them to see in and take samples and what not. it really doesn't hurt at all if you just relax your muscles. It will be over before you know it. And they are not testing for cervical cancer, they are testing for HPV which can cause cervical cancer.

  5. Uhm, depends on what kind you get. i've had many. At first it was okay, uncomfortable, but not painful. Then they found A-typical cells on my cervix and i have to get them done every 6 months... with a biopsy to boot. It hurts a lot... feels like severe menstrual cramps. That's because they scrape off a sample of the tissues. That's like typical if your cervix doesn't look normal. So don't worry, you'll survive... it's not extremely painful, not enough to use pain meds, just kind of an ouch.

  6. Your doctor can do a Pap test during a pelvic exam. It is a simple and quick test. While you lie on an exam table, the doctor puts an instrument called a speculum into your v****a, opening it to see the cervix. She will then use a special stick or brush to take a few cells from inside and around the cervix. The cells are placed on a glass slide and sent to a lab for examination. While usually painless, a Pap test is uncomfortable for some women.

    I'll be honest and say they are embarrassing and uncomfortable, but see it this way - once you get it done you'll know what to expect the next time.  Talk with your doctor and explain your concerns.  I'm sure they'll take in consideration that you are a virgin and it is your first time.  Much luck...

  7. hmm thats weird because my doctor told me to wait until i have had s*x then again im only 16 soo idk but im sure it will be ok if not just kick them gynos upside there heads C;

  8. Not at all. No pain, for sure, so just put that out of your mind. When you go in, you will take your clothes off and put a gown on, then you will lay back, put your feet in a set of sturups. When the doctor it ready, they will tell you to let your knees fall to the side and relax. They will tell you ecactly what they are doing so you dont get startled. They will insert a (often times cold) metal tool (any other day I could tell you what it is called, go figure lol) this will be slightly uncomfortable. NOT PAINFUL, so dont worry. You will just feel a little pressure, like if you were to  gently push your finger against your arm. That kind of pressure. After that, they will insert there other instrement in to collect the sample.

    Honestly, if it hurt women that much, they would never go in for there annual. It takes less then a min to collect the sample, then they pull out the now warm tool and your all done.

    It it better to face your fear about this then to put it off and risk having a problem that doesnt get attention.

    take a deep breath and good luck!
