Whether or not something floats or sinks has more to do than its weight.  Small objects that resist the surface tension of water can 'sit' on the water.  Buoyancy may also determine if an object can float.  Take a chunk of metal and place it in the water, it'll sink.  Shape the same piece of metal into a bowl and it may float.

you know pennys and dimes and all coins do not float. its fun throwing them inside the pool and start looking for them in the water..

Yes, sometimes they float feel the bath tub up and throw a paper clip in there to see if it floats.

Paperclips float yes, cause they have evenly distributed weight.

Something like a pin doesn't float because it is heavier at one end and sinks.

A pin won't float. A Needle might.
