Question:

Do paper wasps eat bees?

There's a small paper wasp nest under the canopy at my front door. I also noticed that there's a bees nest very close inside the shingles/canopy (only a few feet away from the nest). The paper wasp nest can easily be removed but I was wondering if the paper wasps would actually invade the bee hive and eat them (if the wasp nest gets big enough). I wanted to know because if they did eat bees, I think I should leave the paper wasp nest alone and let them control the bee problem. The beehive must be huge because so many bees are going in and out non stop.

  1. I have in the past worked in a apiary and never heard of wasp eating bees. Please let the bees alone because the environment desperately need them. The Asian bee mite has destroyed many of our bees and without them to pollinate crops we will soon all be very hungry! Heed my warning!

  2. Hornets eat bees. Wasps do not.

  3. Wasps usually don't prey on insects that can sting back. If you leave them alone they won't bother you.
