Do parrotlets transition easily?

A good friend passed away and owned a parrotlet--I'm considering keeping this bird as my own pet. I've never owned a bird, but have owned a variety of other animals. I have no idea what this bird knows. Will it transition easily into a new environment? Are adults still trainable? Any information or names of books would be appreciated.

There are a bunch of really good parrot websites - research these and you will learn a lot.

Pay some quality attention to this bird especially in the beginning. Adults are very trainable, they are super smart. Be prepared for some loud bird noises. Some of it is not avoidable, but with a lot of attention, it can be kept down to a minimum.
