  1. Any horse can be wild  or clam. How old is the kid you are buying the horse for.  do the children that will be riding him know how to ride.  Can you borrow this horse for a couple of weeks to see how he works out for you.  I have done that many times.  A lot of sellers will agree to it.

  2. No BREED makes a good horse. The horse should be treated as an individual and judged on its behaviuor, not the general behaviour of the breed. If you think it is a nice horse, great, but dont go by the breed as I have owned some great thoroughbreds even tho people think they are a bit skittish.

In saying that tho, quarterhorses in general have a quiet nature and are very trainable, on the other hand, arabs tend to be a bit more flighty. Arabs X Quarterhorses, because it is a X breed, you can not guarentee the temperment.

Try the horse out, if it is quiet and is prooven to be good with kids, then, buy it.

In general, older horses such as he, will be quiet enough for kids, but, I would recomend an experienced horse owner go with you to check out the horse with you.

You want a SLOW, DEAD QUIET horse for a begginer. Dont worry about the ability of the horse, get a quiet one.

Tell me what he is like!!!

    Cheers, Jane.

  3. depends on horse.  you need to try him out.  have an experienced person help you.  watch him interact with children.

i would say he should work out for first time owner as he will help teach you.

  4. You need to find out how old 17 years is in horse years.

  5. I agree fully with Jane Horse. Do your home work and try the horse out, as ever horse is different in spirit and personality. Being aged I would recommend highly recommend have a vet go over the horse, but as a general rule any horse that you may wanna buy you'll want to have a vet check them out. Good Luck!
