I know that payment by credit card covers your money if the supplier defaults. But does the same apply to a Visa debit card?

  1. no

  2. No. That is why credit cards are so popular and debt so prevalent. It is the 1974 Consumer Act that is designed to encourage the unwary into debt using someone else`s money. With a debit card you are using your own  money and are more discerning. The politicians got into bed with the moneylenders with the result we have today - the credit crunch, people having spent money they haven`t got.

  3. This is an interesting question J.B.

I think legally, the banks give less protection on debit cards, but historically have paid out nonetheless for the sake of maintaining good public relations.
