Is there some behavioral analysis course that needs to be taken? Something that could help pediatricians recognize symptoms of autism so there could be some kind of early intervention.

  1. I don't know the answer but if they don't, it would be a really good idea!

  2. There are some pediatricians who can take courses in ASD, however, there is nothing organized.

  3. yah im in the class

& your mom is teaching it :]

  4. The last time I checked this question, they had a chapter in a book on childhood developmental issues.

Obviously, they SHOULD have to take an entire course on it--or at least more than 1 chapter in a textbook for a course that uses 3 texts.

  5. They do have some training on identifying children on the autistic spectrum but, if they are just a general paediatrician it is not covered in any great detail. Autism is such a huge spectrum and there are so many variations on it it would be impossible to identify every child with an ASD at a normal clinic consultation. As the incidence of autism is on the rise it would make more sense for paediatricians to have more training to identify the signs of autism and for referrals to be made to clinical psychologists who specialise. I speak from personal experience of my own child who I knew to have an ASD but her paediatrician said I was wrong. This caused many years of upset and frustration. I do think all paediatricians should listen to parents more as they are the ones who know the child best.

  6. No, they don't have to. Some do extra training after starting their own practices, but it's not required.

  7. nothign required but should be and also for teachers too. My sons teacher had no clue what it is.
