When I was younger, my teachers always told me that when we recycle our bottles, they clean and sterilize them and send them back to manufactures. But now I'm hearing that they just sit in landfills. Which is true? You should see my recycle bin its overfilling with bottles every week

  2. well if people don't take them to a recycling center they end up in landfills. but there are trash companies that have employees sorting out all the trash and set apart all the recycling items. but do your part and take it to the recycling center and get money for it.

  3. Both are at least partially true.   Many dumps will recycle probably about 40% of the recyclable items that come into their centers when people throw them away.   Some recycle more, some recycle less, some don't recycle at all.   When you recycle your bottles, most of the time they are melted down and sterilized and then used to make all sorts of things from tires to playground equipment, to other bottles and containers.   Sometimes they are sterilized and reused.

  4. I didnt hear of any such process there till now...I hope no...

  5. What your teacher told is partially true....

Plastic bottles are generally melted down to liquid and used to produce different materials, as somebody pointed from tires to toys.

For glass bottles melting becomes very difficult and costly option, hence they are cleaned, sterilized and reused for the same purpose or different purpose.
