It seems that some of the people pushing for this, particularity talk radio hosts, are implying that drilling US oil will bring down the price of oil in the US relative to the rest of the world which can only happen if the Oil is subsidized (which is not what is being suggested).
I do not think people are considering that any company that is going to take on the expense of drilling oil is not going to just give their profits away, thus selling cheaper in the US, when they can sell for more on the world market, unless forced by the US government (and what company would enter such a ridiculous arrangement). If there is enough oil that the world supply is drastically increased, then obviously the end price could come down, but not just for the US, for everyone in the world. That is a reasonable expectation if that much oil is anticipated, but what other reasons is anyone possibly thinking that only US oil will be cheaper as per many conservative talk show hosts.
