  1. first off i want to clarify all the bull **** being said above me i live in florida, and you can surf any wave you can bodyboard all you need is a long board.. but yes statistics of people that bodyboard will say they are too lazy, but there are people that truly enjoy bodyboarding and are d**n good at it too... and the people that are good at bodyboarding can't be called too lazy to learn to surf because they get out there and hit the waves as frequently as any other surfer

  2. many different reasons, but yeah for some there is a laziness factor. on the other hand, there actually is a hard core factor. Some body boarders prefer to put themselves in waves that are so insane that no one could ride them on a surfboard. for example, the wedge. Waves that wedge are great for body boarding but not great for surfing. they are short experiences but very intense. Body boarders get barreled more often. Ultimately it isn't a matter of preference but what the waves call for.

  3. No, on pounding close up shore break when you can't surf it is fun to pull into closeout barrel's!!!

  4. Body boarding is probably an older art than stand-up surfing. People of the Pacific rim not only developed surfing (upright) but body boarding, and riding surfing mats. Way back in my day (1960's - not prehistoric Polynesia) lots of kids body boarded and rafted, and it was sort a rite of passage sort of thing, when you grew up and started surfing. When Morey invented the boogie board, body boarding took on a whole new perspective. And surfing great George Greenough experimented vigorously with knee and belly boards, because you could get closer into more critical portions of a wave; and do maneuvers that just weren't possible (at the time) on surfboards.

Body surfing, body boarding and surfing are all related ocean sports, and I think just because some people choose not to stand up, we can't knock 'em.

  5. Bodyboarding is actually kinda fun, not my thing, in fl here we've got no waves, check out our surf report lol, this is my local surf report, surfjaxpier.com  go there and see what we've got.  It's aweful.  We make the best of it though, I'm still surfing my shortboard on these little closeouts.

  6. As a bodyboard myself and once was a surfer I think i can answer your question the best.

First off I bodyboard because in surfing it is harder to hit the lip and get air unlike most surfers.

Second you can do anything a surfer can do on a bodyboard, if you look into bodyboarding more you can see that there are two ways of riding prone and drop-knee. Drop-knee is a more surfer type way of bodyboarding.

Last it is was more fun, i surfed for 3 years and one day my board broke and went out on a bodyboard because the waves were pumping and I didn't want to miss it. I have stuck on my bodyboard ever since, with bodyboarding unique air maneuvers like my favorite the air forward. It is a blast!

Now for the big question is it easier, yes it is easier TO START OFF, riding the line is way easier on a bodyboard then surfing but once you get past that part the next hard trick is a barrel role not to hard prolly can do it in a month but then after that is inverts, ars and revo and forward spins they are such an incredible harder to pull off. So no its not easier trust me I know

  7. No way! I'm a surfer and a bodyboarder, so I speak from experience. Bodyboarding is a bit easier than surfing, but if you're doing it right, it's a whole lot of fun - and really awesome to watch.

There are some great bodyboarders out there - if you watch some videos, you'll see guys pulling amazing tricks. It definitely not a laziness factor, that's for sure.

A lot of the people you see on bodyboards at the beach...don't really know what they're doing. They're just out there messing around, cause it's fun. But really good bodyboarders have the same mindset as surfers.

Honestly, when you're at the beach, you won't see many great bodyboarders (most people surf). But you'll be surprised at what some people can do.

  8. it's easier

  9. Lazy isn't always the problem.  Some people actually prefer to bodyboard.  And here on this coast of FL our waves aren't generally big enough to surf, until a hurricane or tropical storm rolls through, then everyone breks out the surfboards.
