  1. I'm from Alberta...never heard of them. But that might just be because I don't know anyone from the marititmes who would have introduced me to them.

They're probably not as popular here.

  2. Only if your a Maritimer living somewhere else like me. I live in British Columbia but born & raised in Nova Scotia. I love fiddle heads but most people don't know what they are or how to cook them properly. Besides that, they are like lobsters, ridiculously expensive and not very fresh by the time they arrive here. How I miss some things from home!

  3. yes people in Maine and all over new England eat fiddleheads . picked in the spring of the year

  4. Here in Ontario we do to, when I was a chef I often got boxes of them from local hunters, they grow quite a few around the Grand River are in Southern Ontario, lots of old wood lots, steep incline hills and most of the farms back on to the river for more private hunting grounds.

I worked in Nova Scotia for some time, while they are alot alike, the one's here tend because of the leave cover to be more of a challnege to wash, but taste wise I would rate them the same.

  5. Yes they do. As a matter of fact I have picked them in British Columbia. Most people had not heard of them but while out wandering around in the woods near a stream I noticed the fiddlehead fern growing (mature) in the summertime and the next spring I went out and picked about three gallons of them, and went back each year to indulge in my favourite green. The only thing missing was smoked gaspereaux, another maritime delicacy.

  6. Everyone I know in Toronto eats them.

  7. I had them when I worked in Algonquin Park and I've never lived in the maritime provinces.

  8. yes in Massachusetts, for a quick week or two in the spring.
