Yes OCD is thought by psychologists to start off with a superstitious thinking - it can lead to death.

Did you see the film the aviator about Howard Hughes's obsessions ?never cutting his fingernails and only walking on paper. People who are compelled to hoard newspapers are often killed when their tunnelling system collapses. Other s  die from not eating.

i guess its up to the people whether they should be affected by the superstitious beliefs. Superstitious belief just serve as a guide for people to follow, and these beliefs are done to help us to follow what we think is right.

If we choose our life to live in  superstitions then we are the sole responsible to our action

because they believe superstitions are real. example: many chinese people are superstitious (like that fung shui stuff) and they HAVE TO go by the rules of fung shui or else they start blaming bad things in life because they didnt follow fung shui. like i remember by bf got a turtle and kept it on the dinning room table (they dont eat at home) and business was bad and his step dad said to move the turtle because no food on the table is bad luck....makes no sense since they dont eat at home in the first place but its just a way to justify unpleasant situations.
