what it is like working in a fast food restraunt?

Did you know that when you go through drive through you are timed? That is from the second you get to the microphone to the time you leave. The general requirement is two minutes to do all this in. Now if you as an employee fail to get most costomers out in two minutes you can get fired. That is true even if the customer needs to think about there order. Why do people do that? Don't they know that employees in drive through are timed and their job is on the line with every car that comes through.

Why do people go through drive through and ask for something fresh? If you want something fresh get out of your car and go inside. Don't risk someones job over it.

Why do people check their bags at the window? I understand that sometimes that an order can be wrong. But how hard is it to check down the lane and if it is wrong come in or fdrive back through. How complex is that?

  1. I feel you!  I worked my way through school in one of these joints.  Your way out is education.

  2. why do u care? try quitting and get a job where they don't time u

  3. well obviously you work fast food and are pissed off at customers. guess what most people have had to work at a fast food place too. every job has some quirk to it that makes you wonder generally why the public is so stupid and don't comprehend things that you know. why do you know that? because you work there most people haven't worked fast food in awhile or aren't working at the same one you do.

while you may be timed most places won't fire you over a customer looking at the menu. while you may have the inside scoop on your 1 store you don't know the operation of every fast food chain or their policies so don't make it seem like you do. chances are you forgot that businesses are about the customers and while they are looking at the menu you could be getting the order ready for the people in front of them. just because you are young and your parents probably taught you that your sh** doesn't stink doens't mean you are obligated to special treatment or that people who are customers are going to fall over so you don't have to lift a finger.

why do drunks go to fast food? because it's fast and they are drunk n need something to settle their stomachs

what on earth makes you think that if you go inside that it is any fresher than the drive thru? oh and people check the bags because most people who work there are young and don't care about their jobs enough to do it right and put the correct things in the bag. when did ketchup packets become optional??? also no one wants to have to go all the way back around to the ordering box and say uhh you forgot blah blah blah and have to wait in line all over again

i worked at hardees you have no idea how many people think that they have doube cheesburgers happy meals and still sold fried chicken. lots ordered big macs and i asked myself how can you be so stupid?? there are lk 7 things on the combo menu with giant pics!!! did you see bigmacs?

i've been burnt, cussed at, threatened, had food thrown at me, busted prostitutes in the parking lot, pushed dead cars out of the lane, had to clean up someones bloody nose mess that they blew all over the table then laughed at me knowing i would have to clean it up.

so don't think you are the only one who ever got a hard time working at a fast food joint

  4. I didn't know that you guys are "timed"- I'm glad that you've highlighted your problem to us.

A "drive through", is all about service that's meant to be fast, so you could help with polite prompts along the way to the "undecided" to help speed up the process.

Stay sane and always keep your cool-that helps! :)

  5. Hey man relax. Most of the customers dont know that you guys are being timed and are under so much stress. Shall behave better at a drive thru now.

    : )

  6. I didnt know that they were timed, that's harsh most people check their bags at the window because yes, they are wrong most of the time and why should I have to come back and have cold food? I paid for what I ordered, not what you want to give me

Personally I do no think that people who work at fast food joints are idiots, but it could be because they cant get an order right half of the time. How hard is that?

Because no other kids meal is advertised in Mcdonalds for children.

Well you work there, we don't! so we don't know whether it is trademarked or not!

people go drunk because they have been on a night out and want food late. If your bothered about this, change to a dayshift

At dinner time you are obviously gonna get more people at the same time

  7. I'm answering honestly, i'm not being sarcastic, everybody expects perfection. I know I'm guilty of it. I get angry when there is lettuce on my taco at taco bell. I think "how hard is it not to put lettuce on a taco". But in reality, I can see your point that constantly being rushed and the fear of loosing your job can have a negative influence on a workers performance. But still, I check as fast as i can to make sure my order is right before I leave the window because i won't go back. Once i called the manager on the phone and yelled at them and got a free burger. I ordered a bacon cheese burger and got home (20 miles away) and i all i had was 2 buns.

  8. No.

  9. Mcdonalds being prompt with orders?.... thats a joke! Where are these Mcdodnalds at cause here in Detroit we are lucky if our order is somewhat warm let alone made to order, I refuse to eat there but do order my kids happy meals, which are usually cold and not right also I mean how hard is it to make a happy meal with bbq sauce for the nuggets? I feel that customer service is mos def overlooked here and it shows by the many unhappy customers who are always ranting about Mcdonalds. Maybe you should work in Detroit......lol Where there is no need for promptness.

  10. My Daughter works at McDonald's, they have 90 seconds to get people in and out of drive thru. And yes they get into trouble when the cars aren't moving fast enough. Its dumb.

And no the customers don't care about the workers at all. they just care about themselves. She has had people throw their food at her, throw money at her. ketchup is another thing they like to toss. She has several times tossed the stuff right back. She does get very frustrated working there. But that's life at McDonalds.

  11. I know what it is like working in a fast food restaurant. Did my time there and watched two of my kids do their time in one.

Maybe if they would spend the money for decent speakers so we didn't have to repeat our orders four times, the employees could get us through faster.

To give an example of why we expect something fresh at the drive thru, the fast food chains that advertise fresh food do not state that you must enter the restaurant to get fresh food. The service at the drive thru is supposed to be as complete as the service in the restaurant. Blame the marketing departments, especially Jack-In-The-Box's since they advertise "We don't make it until you order it!"

I check my bags at the window because when I used to check them in the parking lot and went into the restaurant to complain about an improper order, half thetime the cashier would ask why I didn't check it at the window. Blame them.

Most of the fast food employees I have dealt with come across as if they are idiots that do not taketheir job seriously. Then again, that applies to most of the people I have worked with at any job.

As for knowing trademarks, that's important to the business, not to the consumer. Xerox is a trademark that has also become the word for making a copy.

Why don't  drive through employees do not have a number by the window so they can call and report drunk drivers?

Why did you take a job serving people when all you seem to do is complain about the realities of the job?

Fact is, everything you rant about is part of the job. Don't like it, find another job, but do not expect the customers to cater to you, its your job to cater to the customers.
