  1. Yes, if fact we're having it for tonight's dinner.

It's readily available in supermarkets and the tail part is the best.

Roo steaks are also h**l of alot cheaper than the other steaks out there, and better for you.

It's also on the menu at some restaurants.  I even came across one restaurant in NZ that also sold roo steaks.

  2. Roo is a meat that should be eaten more often here. The flavour is gamey but not overly so. It is high in iron and protein and has little to no fat. It is true that it should be cooked medium rare due mainly to the low fat content as it can get tough. I suggest giving it ago as it is no different than eating venison, cow, sheep, goat or any other kind of meat. It is just that it is an indigenous animal to this country where as the others I stated have all been introduced.

  3. yes they do eat kangaroos...its kinda gross to me...but they actually sell kangaroo meat in stores and in 2005 decided to call kangaroo meat australus like they call pig meat ham or pork. hope this helps :]

  4. It is available to buy in some supermarkets and at the odd restaurant , I have never tried it myself

  5. hah I actually just found out that they do yesterday. I was so shocked. Apparently, you're supposed to eat it medium rare. flavor is better...?

  6. Of course we do. There are plenty of good reasons for us to eat them, but the most important ones are that they are really quite tasty, and the meat is very low in fat for the diet conscious..

Kangaroo steaks, sausages and mince are sold in supermarkets now.

  7. course we do.. it's excellent meat and is known as the leanest meat on earth, so why not.  Kangaroo meat is also exported to many countries across the globe.

  8. I don't eat it myself because I don't particularly like the taste, but there's no reason why kangaroo meat shouldn't be eaten.

Kangaroos are in plague proportions in many parts of Australia and numbers must be managed to the extent that this year, 3.7 million licences will be issued to commercial shooters. If numbers aren't managed, the entire kangaroo population suffers and millions will eventually die of starvation or disease caused by poor nutrition. Commercial shooting is far more humane than that. Kangaroos also take water and nutrients needed by sheep and cattle and cause land degradation when numbers are too high.

Kangaroo meat is excellent quality and very low in fat and it would be criminal if it all went to pet food or was wasted. Little calves and lambs are cute and cuddly too and only extremists object to them being eaten. Australians would be stupid to let sentiment stop us from using a valuable natural resource just because it happens to be our national symbol.

  9. I hate to say it - but I live in Australia and yeah...some people do!!

It's way more popular in the outback than other areas - mainly because it's a lot harder to get other meat out there and it's often unsuitable to farm cattle or the like...so yep!

  10. i guess yes some ppl do i use to feed my cat "roo meat" from the pet shop lol
